Best brand oil 71 BeetleEthan S postedI'm changing the oil for my '71 Super Beetle, since its been dormant since august. No need to change the fuel screen, it has an after-market fuel filter, so I'm just gonna drain it and then fill it back up. What would be the best brand to use? I'm pretty sure it's been using non-synthetic up till now. I plan to use 10w40.

I all ways ran 10-30 for the winter, and 10-40 for the summer. 3 out of 4 of the VW's had over 300,000 miles on them when I sold them to some-one else. austin j repliedI would recommend oil that is made for modern air-cooled motorcycles such as Castrol motorcycle oil. If there was ever an engine begging for a modern oil it's the air-cooled Volkswagen. 10w40 for the winter and 20w50 summer. If you don't mind spending the money go to a Harley Davidson dealer and check out the oil they use to keep milwaukee vibrators from burning themselves up.
