Im ready give Anyone feelAly postedWhen I first joined Y!A, I was really excited to finally talk books with people. But now, B&A has turned into one big Twilight fan site. If I ignore the Twilight questions, I can't really answer anything. If I answer the Twilight questions, I get twenty people telling me to "get a life". I thought that maybe things would get better, but if anything they're getting worse. I feel like I can't answer anything on here, and though I try to ask as many non-Twilight questions as I can, there are always ten "How hot is Edward?" questions to follow it. Is anyone else seriously considering abandoning B&A? It's not really even the Books and Authors section anymore. It's the Twilight etc. section. Can we do anything about this or should we just leave? Sponsored Link-------------------------- ♥ ədɐuS ɟo ɹəʇɹoddnS ♥ (SOS) repliedThat's the reason why we asked soo many Harry Potter questions last night! XD Lovely repliedif you really feel strongly, by all means leave. but the twilight craze will die down, people are just really excited because the movie came out recently. hang in there xxx please answer mine it didnt pos thttp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... Tony Pro repliedI completely agree. When I clicked on the link to this question there were FOUR consecutive Twilight questions right below it. It wasn't even this bad with the Harry Potters. Come to think of it, we could petition for a whole other category for Twilight. The Travel section has subcategories all the way up to individual cities in unheard of countries; I think B&A could handle one more. Lyra Wants a Grand Piano. repliedI've given up in a different way. I've stopped being sarcastic and rude to Twilighters without reason. But if you give up and leave, you're giving in to the Twilighters. Yeah, there are a thousand Twilight questions a day and everything, and there's really nothing you can do about that, but you really just have to stick it out. Aly, you and I both know that there is no worth whatsoever to Twilight or Meyer. Things will die down. They *will*. It's just a fad, and there aren't any more books coming out. The reason there's so much Twilight going around is because it's so new to a lot of people, and was brought to their attention because of the movie. There are girls in my math class who don't read, but know about Twilight because of the movie and I think read Twilight. But really. It's the movie. It's going to die down. Don't give up; Books & Authors NEEDS good people like you. Zara Sahana 007™ repliedI'm sorry you feel that way. I've noticed it too. Have you made the suggestion to Y!A that they create a temporary Twilight section? If you look hard enough, there should be decent B&A questions to answer, though not many. I'm also disappointed, but I'm not really leaving because I think that this is all a part of a passing fad. It will eventually clear up. Have hope. ~Zara Sahana Kelsey (Tries to Behave) repliedI know it seems hard sometimes, but it's not worth giving up your position and fun for twits. You have as much to enjoy yourself on here as the people who annoy you do. It's not a bit fair, and I won't pretend it is, but you have to look for questions to answer harder than the people who content themselves with Twilight questions. They're few and far between, but they're there. Look for the things you enjoy, even if it takes some effort. If that doesn't please you, then look somewhere else for the freedom you want (and you know of a place, I think). In LOVE with Edward Cullen! repliedForget the losers who say that. The reason the say 'get a life' is because they are jealous and they are the ones who need to get a life. Don't let anyone else's opinions get in the way of what you love. Just ignore what people say. jess repliedi know! i actually want to talk about interesting books (not that i don't like twilight, but its just a little much) in my opinion they should just make twilight it's own section and then let B!A go back to what it was before twilight took over! and like others have said ignore those who say "Get a life" they are the ones who are obsessed w/twilight. they need to get their nose out of the book and find some other ones. there are so many more good books out there!!! hope this helps, good luck and i'm with you 100%! Aderyn H repliedi love twilight, but i kinda agree. Phoenix Tears repliedI know exactly what you mean! It's really frustrating, and I don't like it either. I think that some of the only alternatives are to: -petition to YA and demand that Books and Authors is split into more categories. If there was some section called "Popular Teen Fiction" or something like that, maybe *that* could handle all of the Twilight questions. That would leave the rest of us free to navigate through categories like "Classics", "Mystery", "Fantasy", etc. -just deal with it and go through pages of Twilight questions until we find good questions. -etc. etc. cassity d repliedi conpleatly agree! while i understand people like the books i found them very simple and exstramly over rated. and i get sick of uesless post about it . however i dont think we should give up becaus that would mean more room for twilight post. ijust try to ignor them Unpretty repliedYes, it has gotten rather annoying to see so many Stephanie Meyer or Twilight questions...and I don't think I have had a day yet in the last month without seeing sixty questions about Edward. It's highly annoying. But...that's the way these things work, I suppose. Teen and young adult trends such as Harry Potter and the such eventually wane. I mean, when I first came here, everything was Harry Potter, and now you just see a speckling of questions. Eventually, it will go back to asking about less trendy topics. The series holds no appeal for me whatsoever, but at least it's gotten reading back into middle schoolers' and high schoolers' vocabulary! Even though I dislike these types of books, I have a lot of respect for a writer who can get younger people reading outside of school texts again. I think that takes a lot of talent and drive, even though I have my issues with the actual literary style (what I have seen of the writing seems mediocre). I figure I'm going to stick it out, though. Like I said, eventually people will tire of these books. And, now that it seems like most of the questions are asking what to read after they've read the series, so I think things will eventually even themselves out...as long as people stay and continue to discuss other authors and books. BeautyBlitz repliedYes. I feel this way as do many others I know. *I sent you an email in response to this question. You should read it.* Teresa repliedHere, here! I actually enjoyed the series, but jeez, enough allready! If it isn't Twilight, it's I need a plot (seriously, if you can't think of a plot line, you can't write!)....Read my novel silliness. Maybe if those of us who want to see better posts started posting some (myself included), it would dilute the Twilight stuff a wee bit. Lula Belle repliedYea I know! I ask for a teen book recommendation, and pretty much all of the answers are "Twilight". =/ Mary Otter™ repliedSometimes, I admit, I enjoy actually fighting back. Yesterday, as you had noticed, there was sort of a "battle," where twenty some odd people asked about ten Harry Potter questions each to contribute to the madness. Though I was highly entertained for a good twenty minutes, the immature hype that is Twilight is getting annoying, and that battle itself wasn't why I had joined B&A a long time ago. I started using this site to learn about literature, and if it's not going to be about literature, I think I may just stop coming here for that purpose. That being said, I don't think I'll leave this site for good. It's like a family on this site! Everybody sort of... "knows" each other, in a sense. I just have a lot of fun here. There's no need to contribute to the madness in the way so many of us did last night, but simply leaving... I would be sad if you left! ^-^ I think this will die down, and if you can't wait that long, then just ignore the Twilight questions and other annoying questions for the time being. (: Lex repliedThis is exactly how I feel! I read that book and thought it was stupid. But of course a lot of people like it and it's like their whole life. Now when I'm on I try to answer questions that don't pertain to twilight and if I can't find it any i go to a different section or answers them saying how much the book is stupid. DenizenofEvil repliedYou know what? You gave me a brilliant idea. There is no way in heck I'm giving up to some hormonal preteens. I say all of us normal YA B&A people band together and all ask intelligent questions about books other than Twilight one preorganized day. For each Twilight question, we ask 2 good questions. We can drown out the annoying Twilight questions. That would be a good way to actually get some discussion in and keep with the community guidelines. Another method would be giving the Twilight fans a taste of their own medicine by spamming questions about how hot Mr. Darcy is or how hot Rochester is. The Twilighters will tell you to get a life and then that's when you turn it around on them and tell them they're doing the same thing and that our opinion is just as important as theirs.
I know what you mean about things getting worse though but I'm also seeing a lot more people going against the Twilight fans' obsessive questions. I'm sick and tired of going to answer a question someone asks about a good book, whether it be for entertainment, research, or the advancement of knowledge in literature and seeing a bunch of "Mrs. Cullens" answering saying to read Twilight. When I answer a Twilight question with an intelligent response with facts and logical reasoning to back up my opinions, I still always get some obsessive preteen screaming at me, saying I have no life and that my opinion doesn't matter. "Why do you even bother answering pro Twilight questions if you're just going to be mean about it? Just ignore the questions!" That's all they come up with. Next time someone tells you to get a life, tell me about it so I can go give them a talking to. You should also report these rude people and report the dumb unintelligent twilight questions. I can usually counter arguments in a mature manner, something these fans are unable to do. We cannot and should not give in to this hype. It HAS to go away sometime. |
