Allie repliedBecause as women we don't carry on our father's names we adopt our husband's names when we get married. We don't have to but we do most of the time. Jr. is reserved when you are passing the family name from generation to generation.

About 85% of the time I show my ID to anyone they comment about it. Others think it's a typo. Also I've had some of my mother's information appear on my credit report.

I find it conceited and arrogant to give a child the same first name as the mom or dad has.. unless he is a business tycoon and his name is supposed to live on forever or she is Miss Universe or something equally stupid.. I would not name a son after his dad.. or if so then use the dad's name then only as the baby's middle name if it's a girl I would not want her to be called after me and have two women with the same first name in the house.. she could with some people who think their name is so great.. have the mom's name as their middle name.. I find it arrogant to press ones own name on a poor child.. the child is different.. and unique.. I would not want a child called Vera because my name is Vera.. it's horrible enough for me so with torture a poor girl of the 21st century with such a ridiculous name?

I would go for something new and unique...and definitely no Jr male or female unless he is supposed to run for President and she is going to follow in her mothers footsteps as some well known female whose name is history around the world ..a female ambassador or something of the kind.. or a second mother Teresa...or a second Florence Nightingale..
