Before installing batt insulationmstrangeway postedI recently purchased some owens corning batt insulation. I noticed the outermost layer (opposite the facing) seems as if you should peel it off. The material is not fiberglass, it is pink, but it is more of a coffee filter type of material. Should I peel this off or leave it. I'm leaning towards peeling it off as I don't see the need for it and it could actually hinder the insulating ability. additional---------------------- I recently purchased some owens corning batt insulation. It has a cloth type layer on the outmost layer of the insulation. BlazerDiver repliedLeave the paper intact! It's meant to be there! Another thing you can do in your attic, is to add a radiant barrier. Insulation is good, very good. But a radiant barrier helps, too! rlstaehle repliedWhat you're talking about is there to help in reducing your exposure to the fiber glass. Most people find it highly irritating to handle the material. It won't hinder your thermal performance.
DO NOT put a radiant barrier in your attic, it can cause moisture problems in the winter time, and super heat the air under your shingles in the summer, and bake them, greatly reducing the life of your roof. |
