Theists trust humanity~/BLAKE/~ postedI recently read a quote on one of the previous questions, and it went to the effect of, ''none are good, but God"... That's not saying much for us as a species is it? Any thoughts? What does this say about religion (Christianity specifically)? additional---------------------- the majority of the early answers only support the lack of faith religion has for humanity and the good ppl can do. Sponsored Link-------------------------- answer man repliedAny student of history has little trust in humanity. Study it and learn. deacon666smirk repliedI suspect that theists have little trust in the world in which they live. That includes humanity. I think they look forward to a 'heaven' in which all their problems go away. But, in doing so, they enjoy life less. Necrolius repliedLook at all the Shitt that happens. Where is god? If it is a shame humans let all these happen, it is a bigger shame that god allows it. Gary F repliedTheists, particularly those belonging to one of the three related Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) distrust humanity because they worship a God who who is ruthless and brutally (and unfairly) judgmental. The Christian deity, for example, (when not busy casting disease, famine, and all manner of pox upon humanity) killed by drowning all but one human family and breeding pairs of his own creation, led his "chosen people" on a 40-year long wild goose chase (while systematically killing 80-85% of them), and humiliated, tortured, and sacrificed his own son.The Abrahamic religions all have historical pedigrees that include conversion through genocide and the use of rape, torture, and murder as means to spread their spiritual message of unconditional love. Their mistrust of humanity (and themselves) has manifested itself throughout history numerous times, including The "Dark Ages" - a 1000-year long period when all knowledge of the ancient civilizations was destroyed and the pursuit of secular (non-Biblical) knowledge was a capital offense - when Christianity enjoyed its greatest period of political power. Imagine what the world might be like if the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions of the 1800s had occurred during the 800s. Christianity is responsible for that lost 1,000 years. Mike repliedHave you looked around recently? I have very little faith in humanity, and I am agnostic. PROBLEM JPAS repliedRead the news today, or any day, and tell me how great humanity is. We are so wonderful we allow a child to die every three seconds from the effects of poverty. We are destroying the planet at such a rate, that even if we stop today it will take thousands of years to repair the damage done. We torture, mutilate and kill. Yep, humans are really good. J. repliedMan inhumanity to man is well recorded, so man trusting in man is doubtful. Judaism and later Christianity has stated the God is good, is love, etc. One key concept is that God is prefect, and the man being imperfect should (not necessary could) strive to be perfect. God created the heavens and the earth. He gave the earth to manage. In your opinion, how did man managed the earth? Answer: Theist believe in more than what can observed. We believe in the divine, a God who is perfect. It isn't a matter of trust but belief. Theism is about God. A better word regarding man is skepticism. Mountain man repliedIt says its amazing you could write this because obviously you're smoking crack ! jim C repliedto me it means that without God there is no hope for mankind, just look at the way things are going as we take God out of more of our way of life we sink deeper into an immoral sewer, politics is a prime example. H.u.S repliedChristians believe humanity as a whole is flawed and worthless. The entirety of their theology is misanthropic. Just read the answers from Christians in this section and you'll find plenty of examples. Buddy R repliedAll people are sinners. Anyone who denies that is stupid. That is what the verse is saying. Everybody has sinned and none of us can kick down the gates of heaven demanding entrance basd on our goodness. It says Christianity has an understanding of human nature and atheists don't. frakusa 666 repliedActually if you live around people you wouldn't survive much if you would believe that humanity is basically good. Bob repliedIn the quote, the word "good" means perfect. Eric M repliedWarning:
This answer may not be to your liking! You have never broken any of the ten commandment? You don't swear, drink or have sex with either man or women that your not married to? You close your eyes when a babe or hunk walks by and free your mind of having sex with that person? Money is nothing to you. You don't buy dope or spirits with it? You don't spend it on foolish things? You never want a bigger and better home, car? You have never said anything bad about another person? Ladies and Gentlemen, we have here a person of truly higher morels than any one who ever walked this earth! To God breaking any of the ten commandments is not good. We all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God! |
