Why dog actingbravesfan_12 postedMy dog (hes a terrier) saw a rat 3 days ago and is still searching for it. He wont respond to anything and seriously will sit there all day long. Any suggestions on how to get him away? Sponsored Link-------------------------- bob k repliedTerriers were bred to search out rats, etc. There's nothing you can do til he gets bored. Ness repliedtake him somewhere far from home like the park or something and play with him until he can't even move. trust me Brandy repliedGet a toy rat that has batteries. Maybe he'll respond better that way. Unless he knows where the rat is then get an exterminator. halee_2010 repliedOMG! We are having the exact same problem!!! My animals that are in my house, which is 4 dogs, and 1 cat, just found a rat, and bless their little hearts, they brought it in my room, and it took me and my brother 2 hours to catch that freaking rat, but anyways, 2 of my dogs and my cat have stayed in one spot looking for it, but they just go out and eat and go outside to potty. I dont know why their doing it though. lol m_flare repliedeaither he gets the rat or he forgets about it so wait or mabey pay more atention to him to make him forget faster Rusty repliedIt is an congenital trait for terriers to track and kill rats. I have two yorkies that spent an entire day trying to get one out from under a hot tub. They never caught him and finally got tired of waiting.I guess it's exciting for them to see something and know they were born to kill them. I did them toy rats. They both went nuts they grabbed them by the tail and tried to kill them by holding the tail in their teeth and banging the body from side to side. It was funny to watch. Doug M repliedTake him out and visit with other dogs... Reece Braveheart Aussies repliedI have a JRT and he does the same thing, it just takes time for him to forget what he saw. Beauxdru repliedIf you really want to distract him from it, take him to another location and rub on him for a while.
