Does plot sheetslike outline sheets workAmused to be a vampire postedOkay, I have three characters and one scene in my mind that involves two of the characters(it's a very short scene). I made up this characters before I thought of a plot an now I'm suck on what to do for the plot. The story seems to be very random, with the characters saying silly things (based on things I've heard people say). Does anyone here have any outline/plot sheets that work for/help you out when this happens? Sponsored Link-------------------------- xxjessss repliedI don't know of any specifically, but there are a few methods that can get plots flowing. You can get ahold of some index cards (or cut up pieces of paper or something of the like) and write down random scenes that you can see your characters in. When you have a few, arrange the pieces of paper a few times until you can see something that sounds like it would flow in order. Eventually, this should be able to expand into something that fill up a chapter, two chapters, and the rest of the story. Another method (the one that I use, though I can see how it wouldn't work for everyone) is to open a Word document, write "chapter one" and see what comes to mind. How would you bring these characters together? For me, the ideas come easily that way. You could also use writing prompts, too -- there's a community on LiveJournal, if you have it, called Runaway_Tales that is helpful for this. Basically, you take your bunch of characters and there is a massive (and I mean *massive*) source of prompts, which you can then use to write out scenes with the characters, and even if it doesn't directly fit into what you want to write, it's excellent for spurring on ideas. People give you feedback, but it's all very kindly done. The people there are wonderful. Otherwise, I'd advise writing down something like... How do the characters know each other? What's the conflict? What's their goal? How do they get to their goal? Is there an evil they first have to get past? How will the characters have changed by the end of the story? etc. Sorry, that's just off the top of my head, but I'm sure you can expand from that. Good luck, anyway. beginning climax end There may be more than one tense climax point. I suggest letting your characters tell you what they want to do-- then you give them a hard time about it mwahahaha. |
