Custom Computer Helpmeghanisradxd postedOk, so I know how to physically put all the parts together to get the custom computer working, but when I start it up the first time, what should I do? Should I stick the Windows XP disk in and will it run that and load XP or should is there something in the BIOS that should be changed? I have worked on plenty of pre-built computers, but this is my first custom one, I would appreciate any information for a newbie. :)

The BIOS will likely first look at the HD for an OS, but it won't find it. It will move onto the CD/DVD Drive, which will show the BIOS that it has bootable software on it (In the form of the Windows XP Installation). The disk will open up the Windows XP installation and from there it should be very self-explanatory. If you want to, you can go into the BIOS and change the boot order to make CD/DVD Drives be looked at first. The BIOS should be just fine unless you want to overclock, change voltages, or other more advanced options. Jogger2425 repliedJust to be on the safe side, get into BIOS and set the options to failsafe defaults. Next, check the boot device order to be sure your installation device (CD/DVD drive?) comes before the hard disk drive.
