Should Steve Garvey Hall Fame 2600 hits 272 HRs 1308 RBis 294 BAChris 35 postedhttp://www.baseball-reference.com/g/garv... additional---------------------- Here are his awards, 10x All-Star selection (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985) World Series champion (1981) 4x Gold Glove Award winner (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977) 1974 NL MVP 2x All-Star Game MVP (1974, 1978) 2x NLCS MVP (1978, 1984) 1981 Roberto Clemente Award 1984 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award San Diego Padres #6 retired http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Garve... additional---------------------- Chip, those are some great numbers from Garvey, those are HOF numbers Sponsored Link-------------------------- Antwaan M repliedYeah i think so He was also a killer in the postseason Michael P repliedAccording to that Baseball-Reference link, the 10 players most similar to Garvey, stat-wise, are, in descending order: Garret Anderson, Al Oliver, John Olerud, Ruben Sierra, Mickey Vernon, Bill Buckner, Cecil Cooper, Orlando Cepeda, Will Clark and Mark Grace. All good players, but only Cepeda is in the Hall, and while cases could be made for Oliver and Vernon, I don't see any of those getting in. Nor Garvey. If he hadn't played for the L.A. Bums, for whom Commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth bent over backwards because they were puppets of the O'Malley family, Garvey would have been forgotten by now. TxRngerFan repliedDodger's Hall of Fame, yes...Baseball Hall of Fame not so much. Rock Firestorm repliedGood player but statistically he is not a HOFer. kooros k repliedRyne Sandberg is in the HOF with similar numbers. Ryno never a World Series title and the Cubs were mediocre during his career. Beyond the numbers, Garvey a an integral part of a Dodger team that competed with the powerhouses of its time such as Big Red Machine, Charlie O's A's, and the Bronx Bombers. I'd have to say that his multiple two hundred hit seasons need careful scrutiny. I'd vote him in even though I hate the Dodgers. But I'd vote in Keith Hernandez first. Captain Shannon repliedSteve Garvey is not a Hall Of Famer. Case closed. Chipmaker repliedI think that laundry list of honoraria is MORE than enough for Garvey. He earned them. He did not, however, earn the eternal bronze plaque in Cooperstown. Thank prime that he finally, FINALLY fell off the writers ballot two years ago. chrisguy repliedUm.... Yeah! lenny.wise repliedSteve Garvey should be in the Hall of Fame. Some may not agree because of the stats but he was a LEADER, MVP, Gold Glover All Star. Junction repliedSteve Garvey was a solid player.. but if Keith Hernandez is not in the HOF.. Garvey should not be in the Hall of Fame. David L repliedGood Lord, no,no,no,no,Let's just let everyone in,I can't believe this question was even asked. Yankees Fan repliedYes, he definately should. His awards make him sound like a first-ballot Hall of Famer!
